Alexei Slater is based in London, England. His first role in film was as a runner on White Boy Rick director Yann Demange`s 2005 graduation film for the National Film & Television School. Alexei later joined HandMade Films, founded by Beatles legend George Harrison, working in production and development. He also supported the sales and marketing team led by Carl Clifton on films including Sony Pictures` animation Planet 51 voiced by Gary Oldman and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Brightlight Pictures’ IRA thriller Fifty Dead Men Walking starring Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess, and Scott Free Films’ coming of age drama Cracks starring Eva Green.
During internal restructuring at HandMade, Alexei did informal development work for Carola Ash, then Head of Production at film financier Future Films, assessing projects and taking meetings with talent. Alexei later became head of development at HandMade under Kudos co-founder Debbie Mason before moving to kids tv company Laughing Gravy Media founded by BAFTA winning animators, to lead development.
Alexei has attended many industry events over the years including the markets at Berlin and Cannes, numerous film festivals and has worked many times scouting projects at the London Screenwriters Festival. Alexei`s own short films have screened in around 200 film festivals overall and collected approximately 50 awards and nominations, and he also consults on short films from early filmmakers through Turn The Slate Productions. Alexei holds a BA in English Literature & Film Studies, is a current member of BAFTA ‘Connect’ for emerging filmmakers and was previously a member of both the Royal Television Society and Directors UK.
